Practical assignment using the electrostatic bead generator, microscopic evaluation (size, size distribution, sphericity). 4 groups on different tasks working in parallel:
- Group 1: Alginate solutions with different viscosities
- Group 2: Different gelling ions (Ca2+, Ba2+, Sr2+)
- Group 3: Homogeneous/inhomogeneous
- Group 4: Encapsulation of nanoparticles with drugmimick
4 presentations on the learning from the practical assignment

Practical assignment
- Group 1: 24 hr sample: ELISA (2 cytokines)
- Group 2: Stability testing of capsules from day 1 with different gelling ions (in EDTA, citrate, water, PBS, saline…) and texture analyzer
- Group 3: Release of dye from capsules with/without nanoparticles
- Group 4: Viability staining of encapsulated cells
