Encapsulation may be defined as a process to entrap one substance (called active) within microparticles with diameters of a few nanometers to a few millimeters. Two main type of microcapsules may be distinguished i.e. reservoir type and matrix type. The reservoir consists of one or several core containing the active surrounded by a shell or coating. The active agent in the matrix one is completely dispersed over the carrier material.

Encapsulation allows to immobilize, protect, control release, structure and functional the encapsulated active. It is used in most industrial and personal domains, including pharmacy, biomedicine, food, cosmetic, agriculture, chemistry, detergence … The market is estimated to tens of billions of euros per year with a growing market of 10 % per year. The production runs from a few grams to thousand tons in function of the applications.

Bioencapsulation Research Group was created in 1991 to promote research, development and business in the domain of micro- and bioencapsulation. It has registered as French non-profit association in 1993. The BRG is promoting exchanges between researchers, between researchers and industries and between industries. The BRG organizes conferences, workshops, training schools and industrial convention (or trade fair). It has been the core of different European Network, i.e. COST action 840 and 865, or European space Agency Topical Team on Microencapsulation.

BRG registration is free. To become member, you simply to register on http://bioencapsulation.net, to attend one of our meetings or provide us your name, address and email by any means (business card, email ...)

BRG is managed by a steering committee who is nominated during the General Assembly, who generally take place during the annual BRG meeting. The steering committee is composed of a president, vice president (news edidor), a treasurer, a secretary and the local organisers of future events
